Fix what you already have

Fireplace Inserts

An open masonry fireplace sends most of its heat up the chimney and pulls warm air out of the room while it does it. An insert is a sealed firebox that drops into the hole you already have.

Why people do it

Same opening, completely different appliance.

The old firebox stays where it is. We slide a sealed unit into it, run a liner up the existing chimney, and put a surround around the front. From the room it looks like a new fireplace, because functionally it is one.

The other reason is that an open fireplace cannot be left running. An insert can.

  • Gas insertLog set behind glass, wall switch or remote, no wood
  • Wood insertSealed firebox with a blower, real burn times
  • Electric insertNo liner, no gas — plugs in and goes
  • SurroundTrim panel that covers the gap to your existing opening

Measuring

Four numbers and a photograph.

Bring these and we can tell you what will fit in one visit. Guessing is how people end up with an insert that will not go in.

Front width and height

Measured at the face of the opening, edge to edge.

Rear width and depth

Fireboxes taper. The back is what limits you.

The photo

Straight on, plus one looking up into the damper if you can.

Straight answers

Before you buy

Will an insert fit my fireplace?

Almost always, but the model depends on your rear width and depth, not the front. Bring measurements and a photo and we will match it at the counter.

Do I need a chimney liner?

For gas and wood inserts, yes — the existing flue is far too big for the sealed unit and it needs a correctly sized liner to draft. That is part of the install.
