Three ways to do it
Pick the fuel first — everything else follows.
The fuel decides the venting, the venting decides where it can go, and where it can go decides the price. That is the order we work in with you.
Gas
Direct vent, see-through and linear. Real heat, a wall switch or a remote, and no wood to carry. This is what most of Mesa buys.
Wood
A firebox that takes cordwood, done properly with the right chimney. Fewer people ask, but the ones who do know exactly what they want.
Electric
No gas line, no vent, no permit. Long linear units that go in a wall or under a television. Heat is a bonus, the look is the point.
The flame, not a rendering
This is what a linear gas burner actually does.
Four seconds of one of ours, running over fire glass. Most fireplace photographs you will find online are renderings, and renderings all move the same way, which is to say not at all. Fire is the whole product. It is worth seeing before you choose one.
What we need from you
Bring three things and we can spec it in one visit.
A photo of the wall or the existing firebox, a rough measurement of the opening, and whether there is gas already run to it. That is genuinely enough to get you a real answer.
If you are building or remodeling, come before the framing goes up. Moving a gas stub or a vent run after drywall is the expensive way to do this.

Before you buy
How much does a gas fireplace cost installed?
The unit is the smaller half of it. Venting, gas line, framing and finish usually cost more than the fireplace itself. Send us a photo of the wall and we will give you a real number rather than a range that means nothing.
Can I put a fireplace on an interior wall?
Usually yes. Direct vent units can run a vent up through the roof or out through a chase. Electric units go anywhere there is an outlet. We will tell you which is cheaper in your particular house.
Do linear electric fireplaces actually heat a room?
They take the chill off a normal-sized room, and most of them let you run the flame with the heat switched off. If heat is the main job, we would point you at gas.
